What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

In simple terms, it is about finding solutions to your problems without excessive dwelling on your past. It is based on the latest neuroscience and uses practical, modern and well researched strategies to help people make significant, positive and lasting changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time.

What we think shapes our world and how we see it, both emotionally and, to a considerable extent, physiologically too. By changing our outlook, what we think and do, we can create gentle yet profound changes in our lives. Hypnosis itself reduces anxiety and this is done very simply through a state of focused attention using guided hypnosis, allowing you to focus on the positive aspects of your life that in turns will encourage a shift in perspective.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a totally natural state of mind. You may not be aware of this but you go into hypnotic trances every day without knowing it. It is very similar to daydreaming or that first 20 minutes when you fall asleep. Perhaps you’ve been staring out of the window of the bus going into work, or driven home along a road you know well yet not remembered parts of the journey. Or maybe you have been so totally preoccupied looking at your phone or tablet that you didn’t hear when someone called your name. If any of these examples ring a bell, you’ve been in a hypnotic trance. You will feel relaxed and calm, aware of anything around you. Some of my clients likens it to a deep state of relaxation.

Hypnosis has been used for a very long time and is a very safe and gentle way to create effective change. By inducing and harnessing the power of a natural trance state I am able to access the part of your mind where reprogramming of unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours resides. The part we are talking about here is of course the subconscious mind – the part that we are not aware of, the part where things just happen automatically and that we feel unable to control. During hypnosis you will feel relaxed and calm and aware of everything around you. It is an extremely pleasant and enjoyable state and my clients love it.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be helpful with:

  • Anxiety & overwhelm
  • Depression
  • Lack of confidence (adults & teens)
  • Weight management
  • Poor sleep

What Hypnotherapy isn’t…

Solution focused hypnotherapy is miles away from stage hypnotism or fearing you’ll will be ‘out of it’ and not in control. On the contrary, you are fully conscious during the hypnosis session and you can even open your eyes at any time should you so wish. No one is going to make you cluck like a chicken or hop on one leg. I promise ๐Ÿ™‚

‘I have been seeing Birgitta weekly now for about 6 weeks and as early as after our first session I noticed subtle changes in my own behaviour and thinking. I am working with self-confidence issues, negative thought spirals and I’m also trying to change my relationship with alcohol as I use it to dampen feelings. Birgitta is very insightful and truly has a gift. Her approach is methodical and direct. I could not recommend her more highly.’

Your preferred future

Regardless of what your challenges may be, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on your preferred future and the direction you want to take from now on. We will not over analyse why you are where you are. This may be different to other therapies you’ve encountered. I use a combination of the latest neuroscience, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Solution Focused BRIEF Therapy combined with clinical hypnosis. Clients usually make significant positive and beneficial changes within a relatively short period of time through accessing the part of the brain which is receptive to changing negative thoughts, habits and behaviour.

Collaboration with your therapist

Investment in solution focused hypnotherapy can be one of the best choices you make to live a happier, healthier and more fulfilled life but itโ€™s not an instant fix. To change ingrained beliefs and thought patterns in the brain we need repetition. Clients tend to see me regularly for about 6-8 weeks* to warrant positive lasting change but sometimes it can take a bit longer if the habitual behaviour was created many years ago. It varies quite a bit as we are all different and come with our own unique set of programming. Specific fears and phobias are normally treated in about 4 sessions but we can discuss this over the phone when you ring and make your appointment.

‘My sessions with Birgitta have been a life changing. I used to get really cross with most people, especially my kids, and I was always anxious, feeling I had not done enough. Through hypnosis with Birgitta I have learned that only I am in charge of my future and that my thoughts shape my reality. I love, love, love the deep relaxation and will come back for a top up when life gets the better of me. Thank you.’

*Please note. Hypnotherapy is not like waving a magic wand. Ultimately it is down to you to want to make the changes and be willing to engage in the therapeutic process. It is effectively a collaborative effort and we will be working as a team. For this reason I cannot guarantee results.
