Hypnotherapy

What is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?

In simple terms, it is about finding solutions to your problems without excessively dwelling on your past. It is based on the latest neuroscience and uses practical, modern, and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive, and lasting changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time.

What you think shapes your life

Research shows that what you think shapes your world. Therefore, with a new outlook you have the opportunity to invite new and profound changes into your life. Doing something new will always yield different results and hypnotherapy can be a great way of changing unhelpful thoughts in a gentle and comfortable way.

95% of your decisions are made by your subconscious mind

Did you know that 95% of your daily decisions are made by your subconscious mind? Staggering, isn’t it? It’s the autopilot stuff that you think and do, day in and day out without being aware. Familiar behaviour, such as eating certain foods or taking the same route to work, are examples of subconscious habits. As are smoking, drinking in excess, or overeating – common habits that we struggle to change.

Hypnosis feels very natural

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a totally natural state of mind – you go into a hypnotic trance every day without knowing it. If you’ve ever been staring out the window of a bus and not remembered the journey, you’ve been in a hypnotic trance (or focused attention which is another way to describe it). It is similar to daydreaming or the first 20 minutes after you’ve fallen asleep.

Hypnosis has been widely used throughout history

Hypnosis is an old science, dating back to ancient Greece where members of the public came for a little ‘temple sleep’ only to feel better. Today, we know that hypnosis is a safe and evidence-based method to create gentle yet effective change. During WWII, hypnosis was used to treat traumatised soldiers today it is used for treatments of PTSD and phobias to name a few.

Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy can also be helpful with:

  • Anxiety & overwhelm
  • Pain and long-term illness
  • Depression
  • Lack of confidence (adults & teens)
  • Weight management
  • Smoking
  • Poor sleep

What Hypnotherapy isn’t…

Solution-focused hypnotherapy is miles away from the stage hypnotism you may have seen on tv and you will not be ‘out of it’ or lose control. On the contrary, you are conscious during the hypnosis session and you can even open your eyes at any time should you so wish. No one is going to make you cluck like a chicken or hop on one leg. I promise ๐Ÿ™‚

‘I have been seeing Birgitta weekly now for about 6 weeks and as early as after our first session I noticed subtle changes in my own behaviour and thinking. I am working with self-confidence issues, negative thought spirals and I’m also trying to change my relationship with alcohol as I use it to dampen feelings. Birgitta is very insightful and truly has a gift. Her approach is methodical and direct. I could not recommend her more highly.’

Your preferred future

Regardless of what your challenges may be, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on your preferred future direction. I use a combination of the latest neuroscience, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Solution Focused BRIEF Therapy combined with clinical hypnosis. Clients usually make significant positive and beneficial changes within a relatively short period of time by accessing the part of the brain which is receptive to changing negative thoughts, habits, and behaviour.

Collaboration with your therapist

Investing in yourself by working with a hypnotherapist can be one of the best choices you make to live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled life but itโ€™s not an instant fix. To change ingrained beliefs and thought patterns in the brain we need repetition and my clients tend to see me regularly for a number of weeks to warrant positive lasting change*. It depends on the issues and how long ago the habitual behaviour was created. We are all different and come with our own unique set of patterns.

‘My sessions with Birgitta have been a life changing. I used to get really cross with most people, especially my kids, and I was always anxious, feeling I had not done enough. Through hypnosis with Birgitta I have learned that only I am in charge of my future and that my thoughts shape my reality. I love, love, love the deep relaxation and will come back for a top up when life gets the better of me. Thank you.’

Emma, Hackney

*Please note. Hypnotherapy is not like waving a magic wand. Ultimately it is down to you to want to make the changes and be willing to engage in the therapeutic process. It is effectively a collaborative effort and we will be working as a team. For this reason, I cannot guarantee results.
