What is Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy?

In simple terms, it is about finding solutions to your problems without excessive dwelling on your past. It is based on the latest neuroscience and uses practical, modern and well researched strategies to help people make significant, positive and lasting changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time.

What we think shape how we perceive life

What we think shape our world. If we are able to change our outlook, what we think and do, we could create new yet profound changes in our lives. Doing something different gives us different results. Hypnosis in itself is a very gentle and comfortable state to be in, like a daydream. You are aware of everything around you and you feel deeply relaxed, calm and peaceful. A hypnotic trance is just that, a slowing down of brain wave frequency which makes it easier for us to access your subconscious mind where reprogramming new and more helpful ways of thinking and behaving takes place.

Did you know that 95% of our daily decisions are made by our subconscious mind? Staggering, isn’t it? It’s the autopilot stuff that we think and do, day in and day out. Familiar habitual behaviour such as eating certain foods, or too much of it, are subconscious habits. As are smoking, drinking too much or any other repetitive behaviour that we feel helpless to change. No wonder then, if we’re only in control of 5% of our conscious thinking, that changing stuff is so very hard.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a totally natural state of mind. You may not be aware of this but you go into hypnotic trance every day without knowing it. It is similar to daydreaming or the first 20 minutes of falling asleep. If you’ve ever been staring out of the window of a bus but not remembered the journey, you’ve been in a hypnotic trance – or focused attention which is another way to describe it.

Hypnosis has been widely used throughout history

Hypnosis has been used for a very long time and is a safe and evidence based method to create gentle yet effective change. It was used during the WWII to treat traumatised soldiers and is today widely used for treatments of PTSD and phobias to name a few. Stubborn habits such as smoking, weight loss and OCD are other areas where hypnotherapy has proven very successful.

What Hypnotherapy isn’t…

Solution focused hypnotherapy is miles away from stage hypnotism or fearing you’ll will be ‘out of it’ and not in control. On the contrary, you are fully conscious during the hypnosis session and you can even open your eyes at any time should you so wish. No one is going to make you cluck like a chicken or hop on one leg. I promise ๐Ÿ™‚

Regardless of what your challenges may be, Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy focuses on your preferred future and the direction you want your life to go. I use a combination of the latest neuroscience, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Solution Focused BRIEF Therapy combined with clinical hypnosis. Clients usually make significant positive and beneficial changes within a relatively short period of time through accessing the part of the brain which is receptive to changing negative thoughts, habits and behaviour.

Collaboration with your therapist

Investment in solution focused hypnotherapy can be one of the best choices you make to live a happier, healthier and more fulfilled life but itโ€™s not an instant fix. To change ingrained beliefs and thought patterns in the brain we need repetition. Clients tend to see me regularly for a number of weeks to warrant positive lasting change*. Depending on the issues it can be shorter or a bit lengthier if the habitual behaviour was created many years ago. We are all different and come with our own unique set of programmings. Specific fears and phobias are normally treated in about 4 sessions but we can discuss this over the phone when you ring and make your appointment.
